The Funding Scheme was launched on a pilot basis in January 2017. Eight degree-awarding academic institutions were invited to submit applications. The invited institutions are City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Baptist University, Lingnan University, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, The Education University of Hong Kong, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and The University of Hong Kong. The ceiling of grant for each successful application is $2 million. Each institution was allowed to submit no more than two applications. Applications were vetted by the Advisory Committee on Built Heritage Conservation, which made recommendations to the Secretary for Development.
