Due to wear and tear over the years, cracks were found in most of the timber planks of the staircases at Nos. 74 and 74A of Stone Nullah Lane at Blue House Cluster. There were also signs of termites. When the timber planks were dismantled, termites were found. On public safety reasons, and with expert advice from the Antiquities and Monuments Office (AMO), the Lands Department replaced the unserviceable timber planks in October 2009. Other parts of the staircases, including the handrails, were unaffected and, therefore, preserved.
For those planks that were previously infested with termites, there is no further sign of termite existence after treatment. They are now kept in AMO's custody. As these timber planks have been in service for several decades, they have certain historical values. We look forward to possible alternative uses for them. Information about these timber planks is shown in the attached file.

Applicants for the Blue House Cluster under the Revitalisation Scheme can make use of the dismantled timber planks and give them a new lease of life when submitting their proposals. Applicants are requested to include the proposed uses, if any, of the timber planks in Part A of the Application Form, i.e. Reflection of Historical Value and Significance.
