The Northern Metropolis (NM) is a strategic focus of Hong Kong’s future development. It is also home to rich natural landscapes and cultural heritage worthy of further discovery and understanding. While advancing the development of the NM, the Government will make appropriate use, revitalise and conserve its cultural and natural resources, shaping the NM with a unique metropolitan landscape featured with “integration of urban and rural areas and the co-existence of development and conservation”.
Under the theme “Traversing Northern Metropolis”, the Commissioner for Heritage’s Office of the Development Bureau presents “Heritage Fiesta 2026” from October to December this year, spotlighting 12 selected spots with declared monuments and graded historic buildings in the NM. These sites are categorised under three themes: Clan Culture and Traditional Character of the New Territories; Adaptive Re-use of Historic Buildings; and A Century of Nurturing Talent: Passing on the Founding Spirit of Schools.
A series of free activities will be launched during the event period, including:

“Heritage Fiesta 2026” spotlights 12 selected spots with declared monuments and graded historic buildings in the NM. They are operated or owned by the Government, non-profit-making organisations, private owners or school. They are diverse in type and some are related to War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression. To facilitate public exploration, the 12 spots are categorised under the following three themes:

Special Recommendation: “Inseparable Ties・United in Resistance” Built Heritage
Our event this year specially recommends “Tat Tak Communal Hall” and “Ching Shu Hin” along the Ping Shan Heritage Trail. They had borne witness to the history of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression. Tat Tak Communal Hall was once lent out for use as a children’s home, providing shelter to homeless children rescued from the Chinese Mainland, while Ching Shu Hin served as a transit point, providing accommodation and food for compatriots returning to the Chinese Mainland. The two buildings reflect the inseparable ties between the Chinese Mainland and Hong Kong.
